BLMT Vacancy Nominations – Closes March 22, 2026
The Buffalo Lake Management Team (BLMT) nominating committee currently wishes to fill two member-at-large volunteer vacancies and is seeing expressions of interest for representatives to join the team.
About the BLMT
The BLMT was originally formed by the Minister of Environment in 1991 to provide advice on the construction, mitigation and operation of the Parlby Creek-Buffalo Lake Water Management Project. Since completion of the construction phase of the project, advising on mitigation measures around the lake, and developing a project operating plan, the Committee was dissolved as a Ministerial committee in 2018. Since then, the BLMT has refocused on monitoring ongoing project operations and implementing the Buffalo Lake Integrated Shoreland Management Plan (BLISMP) which provides valuable input and advice to the Government of Alberta related to land-use surrounding the Parlby Creek-Buffalo Lake system. The BLMT also strives to promote public education and awareness related to the project and the BLISMP to promote the overall health of Buffalo Lake.
BLMT Membership
The management team is comprised of representatives of the surrounding communities (members-at-large/local interests), and elected officials from the surrounding municipalities (maximum of one elected official from each of the six municipalities within the project area). The municipalities include the Summer Villages of Rochon Sands and White Sands, the Village of Alix and the counties of Lacombe, Stettler and Camrose.
The team is comprised of interested members of the public who act as representatives of the environment; recreation; agriculture; development; industry and natural resources interests within the project area and from diverse locations around the lake.
